Short answer

Apple requires at least one screenshot and allows up to 10 per device size, in .jpeg, .jpg, or .png with no transparency. As of November 1, 2026, Apple’s spec page names two required display classes: iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), and iPad 13-inch display if your app supports iPadOS. iPhone Duo screenshots become required from April 2027. All sizes below come from Apple’s screenshot specifications.

Which screenshot sizes are required?

Apple names these as required, or required under a condition:

Display classAccepted sizes (pixels)Apple’s requirement
iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)1179 x 2556 or 1206 x 2622 portrait; 2556 x 1179 or 2622 x 1206 landscapeListed as required to submit
iPad 13” display2064 x 2752 or 2048 x 2732 portrait; 2752 x 2064 or 2732 x 2048 landscapeRequired if the app runs on iPad
iPhone with Face ID (large display)1284 x 2778 or 1242 x 2688 portrait; 2778 x 1284 or 2688 x 1242 landscapeRequired if the app runs on iPhone and Dynamic Island (large display) screenshots aren’t provided
iPhone Duo, outer display1398 x 2034 portrait; 2034 x 1398 landscapeFrom April 2027 (see below)
iPhone Duo, inner display2007 x 2853 portrait; 2853 x 2007 landscapeFrom April 2027 (see below)

Apple’s pages do not fully agree on iPhone. The page’s required list names the medium class, but the Face ID row above adds its own condition, and a September 2024 release note said a single 6.5” or 6.9” screenshot was enough. We could not confirm which rule App Store Connect enforces today, and it has the final say. Providing both 1320 x 2868 and 1206 x 2622 covers every reading.

Other platforms have their own required sizes:

PlatformAccepted sizes (pixels)Required for
MacOne of 1280 x 800, 1440 x 900, 2560 x 1600, 2880 x 1800 (16:10)Mac apps

Apple says to use the same Apple Watch size across all localizations.

What other iPhone and iPad sizes are accepted?

Apple lists no standalone requirement for these. If you skip them, it uses scaled screenshots from the class shown:

Apple’s spec page also lists smaller classes, down to iPhone 3.5” and iPad 9.7”.

Which size can scale to the others?

The highest required resolution can. Apple says that if your interface is consistent across device sizes and localizations, you only need those screenshots, and App Store Connect scales them down. If you prefer, you can upload specific screenshots for each device size and localization.

The largest standard sizes are 1320 x 2868 for iPhone and 2064 x 2752 for iPad, so make your master art at those sizes. Then check Media Manager in App Store Connect to see what it will use for each size. Removing a screenshot also removes it from sizes using scaled versions.

Apple’s page does not list a scaling source for iPhone Duo, so plan on making those sets yourself.

How many screenshots can you add per localization?

Apple states up to 10 per device size and gives no separate localization limit. Screenshots can be localized, so each localization can have its own set. App previews are separate, at up to three per localization and device size.

Apple’s asset guidance adds that up to three screenshots can appear in search results, depending on orientation, and that assets shown on the store must meet a 4+ age rating even if your app is rated higher.

When do iPhone Duo screenshots become required?

April 2027, though Apple describes the scope in two ways. The spec page says any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. The October 5, 2026 release note says any apps or games submitted. Check App Store Connect closer to the date.

Apple says submitting Duo screenshots also adds a badge to your product page. Uploads are live, but one developer reports that they appear in App Store Connect and not yet on the store listing.

Can you update screenshots without a new build?

Not on your live version through the normal path. Apple says you upload previews and screenshots when the app has one of five statuses: Prepare for Submission, Invalid Binary, Rejected, Metadata Rejected, or Developer Rejected. So normally you create a new version.

Apple documents these other routes:

  • Custom product pages. You can give a page its own screenshots and submit it for review independently of an app update. People only see it through its link or assigned keywords.
  • Product page optimization. Test treatments can be submitted without a new app version. You can then apply a treatment to your original page. Only its screenshots and previews carry over, you can apply one treatment per test, and it can’t be undone. That is the closest route to changing default screenshots without a build, though Apple doesn’t describe it that way.
  • Creative assets. These can be swapped on a live version, as covered next.

What changed with Asset Library and creative assets?

Asset Library launched in App Store Connect on October 5, 2026, after Apple previewed it at WWDC26. It holds your screenshots, previews, and new creative assets in one place, and you can submit assets on their own once your app has an approved version.

Creative assets are optional brand images or videos for the product page header, search results, and in-app events. They are separate from screenshots and available on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 or later. They’re the one type where Apple documents updating a live version with approved assets and no new version. In session 205, Apple describes publishing such a swap directly.

Asset Library does not remove the rule above: Apple’s pages do not say an approved screenshot can replace one on a live version. Creative sizes have their own spec page.

What is the next step?

Export your iPhone and iPad sets at the sizes above, then check Media Manager before you submit. To produce them faster, see our guide to generating screenshots with AI. OpenASO does not generate screenshots, though the free metadata checker can review the text fields for the same release.

Frequently asked questions

How many screenshots can you upload to the App Store?

Apple requires at least one and allows up to 10 per device size. Accepted formats are .jpeg, .jpg, and .png, and images can't include alpha channels or transparencies.

What is the largest iPhone screenshot size for the App Store?

Among standard iPhones, Apple's largest accepted size is 1320 x 2868 pixels in portrait, or 2868 x 1320 in landscape, for iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display). iPhone Duo has its own sizes.

Does Apple resize App Store screenshots for you?

Yes, downward. Apple says that if your interface is consistent across sizes and localizations, you only need the highest required resolution, and App Store Connect scales those down for smaller device sizes.

Can you change App Store screenshots without a new build?

Not on the live version through the normal upload path. Apple documents other routes: custom product pages submitted independently of an app update, and applying a product page optimization treatment to your original page.
