Short answer

If App Store ratings or reviews are missing, check scope first. Ratings belong to a country or region, so the number you see depends on the storefront. Beyond that, Apple publishes no timing or minimum count, and it can remove reviews, so some cases have no clear explanation. Start by working out which of three problems you have.

Which of the three problems do you have?

What you seeFirst check
You wrote a review as a customer and can’t find itStorefront, then whether Apple published it
Your product page shows few or no ratingsStorefront, reset history, real rating volume
App Store Connect and the store disagreeSame country and platform on both sides

Apple’s help calls the headline number the overview rating, and its developer site calls it the summary rating. They mean the same thing.

Why isn’t your own review appearing?

Apple does not say how long a review takes to appear, so there is no official wait to compare against. These are the checks worth making:

  • Country. Apple ties a rating to where the customer first purchased the app. If you bought it in one country and browse another, look at the first one.
  • Replacement. A new rating or review replaces your previous one, so you only ever have one.
  • Moderation. Apple’s media terms say it may monitor, remove, or edit submissions, using automated filters or human review. They bar paid, incentivized, dishonest, or irrelevant reviews. Apple also says it works to remove fraudulent, duplicate, and inappropriate ones. These pages give no timing, and they don’t say whether you would be told.
  • Sorting. In a 2013 Apple Community thread, one customer found reviews by switching from Most Helpful to Most Recent.

Some reports have no explanation. In a 2023 Apple Community thread with 211 “Me too” votes, a customer describes a confirmation message followed by nothing. No Apple staff answered, and the suggestions were to try another device or sign out and back in. Users have also reported paths to a personal list of ratings in the App Store profile or Apple Account settings, but those 2023 and 2024 reports conflict and the location may have moved.

Why are ratings missing from your product page?

Start with the country. Apple says the summary rating is specific to each territory, so ratings earned in Germany do not count on the US page. Use the App Store link generator to open your page in each country that matters.

If the storefront is right, work through these:

  1. Was the rating reset? You can reset it when releasing a version, and the reset date shows under Ratings and Reviews in the Distribution tab. It applies to every country, can’t be undone after release, and leaves written reviews in place. For universal apps, it applies only to the platform you selected.
  2. Are there enough ratings? Apple says a new overview rating appears once enough users rate the new version, and gives no number. Treat any specific threshold you read as a guess.
  3. Has anyone actually rated it? In one thread, a developer a week after launch saw zero everywhere. A commenter said one of their apps earns about one rating per 500 sales, which is a single anecdote but a useful reminder that small apps collect few.
  4. Is your prompt showing? Apple limits the system prompt to three times in a 365-day period, and people can turn it off. Calling it does not guarantee a prompt, and it has no effect in TestFlight, so testers cannot rate you that way.

Three kinds of report remain unexplained:

  • Some users missing. A July 2026 thread says some users’ ratings had not appeared after several days. It has no replies.
  • Counts falling. In a long-running thread, developers report sudden drops, such as 160 to 78. The one reply marked as Apple’s says customers can remove reviews and that Apple usually removes inappropriate ones. No cause was confirmed for those cases.
  • Membership lapses. One developer reports that ratings never returned after a one-day lapse removed the app. Nobody confirmed a recovery.

Older apps have one documented quirk. Apple says iOS 11 or later counts ratings after September 19, 2017, and developers noticed large visible drops at the time.

Why doesn’t App Store Connect match the store?

Start by comparing like with like. In one case, App Store Connect showed 19 ratings at 3.8 while the store showed 5 at 3.4. A community member explained that App Store Connect covered all storefronts while the device showed one country. Apple did not confirm that in the thread, but it fits Apple’s docs: the product page shows one rating per country, and App Store Connect has a country menu at the top left and a platform selector at the top right.

So set the same country and platform, then clear the version and rating filters.

The reverse also happens. In a 2018 thread, reviews were on the store while App Store Connect showed none. The accepted answer suggests that three or more reviews are needed, but that is one person’s guess and Apple documents no such rule. Apple does not state how quickly the two sides sync either.

When should you contact Apple?

Report it when a specific review breaks the rules, and contact Support when data seems lost.

  • Offensive or spam review: use Report a Concern in App Store Connect. The customer is not notified.
  • Ratings that vanished, or a mismatch that survives a same-country check: use Apple Developer Contact Us. Give the app ID, storefront, platform, the counts on each side, and dates. Screenshots help.
  • Download or billing issues raised in reviews: Apple asks you to send those users to Apple Support.

What is the next step?

Open your product page in your top three countries and note the rating and count for each, then keep that record, since developers complain that App Store Connect offers no rating history for tracing a drop.

To ask for ratings outside the app, the link generator builds a direct review link for support replies and emails. Inside the app, use Apple’s system prompt.

If you would rather automate the record, OpenASO, the free Mac app that publishes this guide, stores storefront-level ratings and reviews and exports rating history as CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't my App Store review showing up?

Apple publishes no time for a review to appear. Check the country you are viewing, since ratings are tied to where the app was first purchased. Apple can also remove or edit submitted reviews, and its terms bar paid, dishonest, or irrelevant ones.

Why do my App Store Connect ratings differ from the App Store?

Compare the same country and platform. The App Store shows one overview rating per country or region, and App Store Connect has a menu for choosing one. A developer on Apple's forums reports that the default view can cover all storefronts, though Apple does not confirm that in the thread.

How many ratings does an app need before a rating shows?

Apple does not publish a number. After a reset, it says a new overview rating appears once enough users have rated the new version, without saying how many.

Does resetting ratings delete written reviews?

No. Apple says a reset does not apply to written reviews, which stay on the App Store. A reset affects all countries at once and cannot be undone after the version is released.
